devon james watson
so, let's start off with the basics. what's your name?hey there! the name's devon james watson. it's a pretty rad name, i'll give my parents that. i happen top like my last name the best though, although it would be far better if it was holmes.. but, oh well! i tend to go by dev, or devon, really. that's about it, unless you count my dj name, devonair...you know, like...debonair? it's a ... pun? you know? no? oh well.
oh, it's a nice name! now, would you mind telling us how old you are?thank you! i'm nineteen. it's a pretty decent age, but it's nothing amazing or anything. i mean, in england i can legally drink and i have been doing so for a year now.. but then i come to america and they're all like 'fuck you, you've got to wait two years!' it's stupid, man. anyway, my birthday's november fifth. pretty much, yeah, it's guy fawkes night, which is so awesome.. but the americans don't celebrate it so.. oh well, you've got a reason to celebrate it now?
really? you look much younger! well, let's get started. first off, what are you on this tour?hopefully not too much younger, i myself happen to think i look a least twenty, but that might be me being biased... well, i guess, pretty much, on the tour i'm just a fan. but, really, i'm a dj for the batteries not included radio station, psychedelic radio. i'm the evening dj - my slots from seven to eleven - and basically what i do is play all of the music that's signed onto the label, go around interviewing people and doing coverage of the shows and their albums and everything. it's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
oh! so how did you first get involved with batteries not included records?well, pretty much, i'd just moved to america, i was sharing a flat with a kid practically half dead on cocaine when i moved here, and i applied for a few jobs as i really wanted to join a radio station and shit. so, this practically unknown station took me under their wing, and as the station got more well known locally, the batteries not included label must have found out form somewhere about how much coverage they were getting from me, cause i basically just played all their music, you know? so they signed us onto their records, along with fairday photography, and well, here i am? the station is actually pretty famous now, so many people listen to it, it's crazy. people dig my english accent too.
oh gosh, really? all right, so, how are you enjoying it so far?in case you haven't figure d it out doll, i'm pretty much fucking loving it. it's amazing. i've rotten to meet like, some of my favourite bands and everything1 now, if only i could meet blink 182, my life would be complete, no joke. and if i slept with cristina scabbia..
that's great! so, what do you do in your free time when you are not working?well, my life pretty much revolves around this tour, soo if i'm not actually dj-ing and shit, i'm out getting interviews with the bands, attending their concerts and crap like that. if i have some spare time, i like hanging out with my friends, you know, hitting up parties, the usual. oh, and football. the sport is my passion, not gonna lie. i mean, seriously, soccer? what the fuck, that's like, some pussy version of football, hah! it's stupid. no-one here is really into soccer the way us english are into our football though. i remember, when i was younger, whenever england were playing in the world cup my dad would pain my face white with the red cross and send me running down the street with the english flag... it was amazing! anyway, what else? oh, i'm always listening to music, pretty much. i mean, if you're a radio dj, you've got to! i mean, i know i just play the bni band's music, but still...
oh, i love some of those too! looks like we have alot in common.really? well, let's meet up sometime and play some football, yeah?
so, how has your romantic past been?oh, it's been eventful - the girl's can barely keep their hands off of me! hah no. i've had a couple of serious relationships. the last one was a few years ago, just before i moved to america. turns out she was a lesbian and having an affair with her girlfriend behind my back, who i just thought was her best friend. yeah, good times.. right? hah. i've had a couple of relationships since i've come to america, but nothing really serious that lasted for more than a month, so.. really i haven't had an actual relationship since then i guess. i mean - i'd like to, sure, but all the girl's i meet seem to want one thing only, and then they'll bugger off in the morning. i don't mind though, i'm only nineteen, loads of time to settle down?
and what about now? is that any better? any different?uhm, weren't you listening dollface? yeah, nothing's happening. i'm getting lots of sex and lots of good kissers, but seriously, that's about it, unless you're interested.
oh, i see.. hmm... and, what would you say are your turn ons? do you have any turn offs?this is going to make me sound pretty shallow, hah. oh well. first of all, have a pretty smile. if you don't smile, or it doesn't reach your eyes, then buhbye. tall girls with long legs and natural hair are hot as well, unless you've managed to dye your hair so well it looks natural? if you backstab others, or aren't loyal, then you can sod off somewhere else - i know, everyone has always said my language is appalling, but! yeah, basically, i'm a pretty proud person, and i think dishonesty is the worst thing that any person can do. i like to believe everyone is a good person and won't backstab me, ya dig? a girl who can have a good time, appreciates good music and enjoys partying is pretty up there as well.
ooh, that's understandable, mhm. so, give us a bit of detail about yourself.sure, i guess this is what the whole thing is about anyway, hah. so, lets start off with the basics. i like to think i'm a pretty rad person at certain times. i'm a pretty easygoing person. i love to have a good time, you know? i love to party and just to chill out, smoke some weed and listen to music. i'm superbly loyal to my friends - this i can say for sure, without any worries about being biased. if you're my friend, then firstly, lucky you! hah, joking, joking. and secondly, i'll be your friend for life. i trust all my friends, and seriously, if you're going to backstab me or something, you can just bugger off instead of apologizing because i really don't give second chances unless what you did wasn't too unbearable and you can honestly apologize like a man, hah. err what else? i tend to get into trouble a lot. it's not my fault, honestly. i just.. you know, like to make things more interesting? i do all sorts of reckless shit without even thinking, and people gush a out how brave i was for doing all this stuff when really i just did it because it looked fun and i didn't think about it beforehand. crazy, right? i tend to get a little overprotective of my friends, which leads to me getting into fights, which pretty much always tend to turn out worse for me cause i'm really scrawny and have no expertise in fighting anyway, hah. i'm very proud and i'm a sore loser, not gonna lie. that's one of my worst traits i think, hah. i hate losing. i always hate people telling me i'm wrong - especially when i am right. or when people act as if they're so much better than me and i'm just some shit on people's shoes compared to them. but, i can tone it down a bit. you know? i can be quieter and all round more mature - seriously? what is that word? damn - but you know. only to a certain few.
mhmm. well you sound like a fun young man. now, is there anything about your past?thank you, you're not so bad yourself! well, i was born to martha and declan watson. my mother died in childbirth, so i never really got to know them, but me and my dad were just swell on our own. he had a couple of girlfriends but they never really stuck around cause they were bitches and didn't like children. the last non serious one disappeared when i was about five. my dad was always big into football and he raised me to love the sport as well. in his spare time he'd play football with em for hours, teaching me how to dribble and shoot and all sorts of fancy little skills. actually, as i grew up there was a high possibility that a scout from liverpool fc was going to pick me up, but it was around that time i decided i wanted to go into radio instead of football. i'm not sure why - some days, before i got picked up by psychedelic i really, really regretted that decision. anyway, i'm skipping ahead. i was around twelve when my dad's newest girlfriend came on the scene. they dated for a year, and that year was the worst of my life, not gonna lie. she was picky and bitchy and although she was lovely to me when other people were around, when we were on our own she was horrible to me. i ended up telling my dad she had, uhm, 'touched my inappropriately' and he kicked her out. of course. she hadn't really, but god she was a hag and she was always stealing my dad's money as well, so thank fuck she was gone. so yeah. i graduated from secondary school with a few a's and a lot of b's, and started my a levels, when my dad suddenly gave me a one way ticket to america out of the blue. i honestly don't know why, all he really said was that i should take a year off, travel to america, explore it all, and then decide if i wanted to come back or not. i went, because hey he'd paid for the ticket and all, and my first few months were miserable there. i was stuck in some shitty little flat with a penis of roommate who spent all his rent money on his cocaine addiction. i applied for a few jobs but i was usually turned down because i was english and there were better, american applicants out there. finally, psychedelic radio picked me up, and well, the rest as they say, is history! or at least was.. i told you what happened a short while ago...
ahh.. all right, so. tell me some of the things you like.ooh, okay. i love travelling, and exploring places, although i wish i'd seen more of england whilst i was there - i was there for seventeen years, you know. i love animals and children and all those sorts of happy stuff like ice cream and rainbows an crap. i love football, and skateboarding, but mostly football, and i love fantasy/sci-fi books; yeah, i'm a fantasy nerd, i'm not even gonna bother to hide it. i like sleeping in and going to parties and getting shitfaced, and i like girls, end of. i love causing trouble and graffiti - not like, vandalism though, cause seriously? waste of spay paint man. oh, and i love twitter, and psychedelic radio. i'm a self confessed addict of the former, and a totally non biased lover of the other.
and what about dislikes?cold, rainy days, for starters. i love the sun and the summer, soo. er, i dislike authority and people who tell me what to do - people who bash my radio station because it's not their type of music - why the hell are you listening to it then? - and people who simply bash me cause they don't get my sense of humour...which i don't get either? i'm just curious as to why people don't get funny things? idiots, hah. er, i hate it when my phone's out of battery, and when i can't sleep because the van's moving. which kind of blows, seeing as i'm really going to need to get used to it. i hate heights like crazy and i'm terrified of hospitals, end of.
do you have any dirty little secrets you wanna share?well, um... i mean, i never knew my mum, but seeing my dad so torn up every year on her birthday... it just kind of makes me feel so guilty that i've done that to him, you know? like, if i could, i'd do anything to get her back to life, and to make my dad happy again. i guess that's why some people call me a bit rough around the edges, and why i swear so much, it's cause it's always just been me and my dad and his occasional girlfriends who are dumber than my old roommate, like, no actual woman influence?... so, yeah, i think that's it.
ooh, that is deeeeeep. well this interview is almost done, do you have anything else you want to say?...are you being sarcastic? but hah, um, no, i don't think so. just, go listen to my radio slot, it's worth your while!
