we lost ourselves in the bright lights ( I WISH YOU COULD HAVE SEEN US ) A wide grin was on her face as she jumped up and down a couple times. Her fingers pounded on the large keyboard in front of her, hitting every note perfectly. She had so much energy in her right now. Vada always did while she was on stage with the rest of her band. It was almost a complete turn around from how she was normally. Anyone who knew her in school before and came to any Party Of Three shows barely recognized her because of it. She would jump around and dance and sing along with the guys. It was a lot of fun and she loved it. She had always loved playing piano. It was the one thing she was really good at. She had started when she was about five, mainly through her mother pushing her to do so. A lot of mothers pushed their kids into things, she knew that. She also knew that a lot of those kids hated doing whatever they were pushed into. She was different. They piano was her calling. She could come up with a song on the spot. She could hear a song once and be able to play most of it through. She could read almost any piece of sheet music. She had gone to every lesson she could, which meant she went to at least four a week when she was growing up. She still went to lessons sometimes too. She felt like she could always learn more. It was deffinitely something she was passionate about. After all, it was her way of speaking for the most part. It was her way of expressing herself as she was normally very shy and kept to herself. That's why it was such a turn around. Sure she smiled and laughed but she was never bouncing all over and singing along the way she did while she was on stage. It added to the show though. People didn't want to see two vocalists with lots of energy and then a little keyboardists just standing there playing.
It was something a few people at the label had been worried about. When they met her they realized how shy she was. Not to mention she had been nervous so that meant talking less. She had promised them she was different when it came to playing and performing and she hadn't proved them wrong yet. It was a good thing though because she had dropped out of school for the tour and if she wasn't doing this, she had no idea what she would be doing with her life. Her dad hadn't been pleased when she dropped out, but her mother was all for the tour. Just another thing her parents fought over though. Her dad thought she should go to college and be a doctor or something of those sorts. Her mother, however, felt she should persue the piano and do what she loved. Vay had quickly ducked out of the room whenever the subjet was brought up because she knew a fight was soon to follow. Her parents fought every other day. The other days in between were them making up and throwing the L word out every other word. It was annoying. She was glad she was out of the house and didn't have to listen to it anymore. She didn't want to hear the fighting or the make up. It was all a big joke anyway. Her parents didn't love each other. Love didn't exist. Well, that kind of love anyway. She knew she loved her family and her close friends, but that was a different kind of love. That was the only real love there was. The whole soul mate be with you forever love, well, to her that was not real. Non existant. Sure a lot of people on the tour were in relationships, engaged and some were even married. She didn't go pushing her views on them, but she didn't believe it real. It was just her views on it all.
Vada bounced around some more, holding the last note of the song as the guys ended it with the words. Applause rang out for them and Vay looked to her best friend Jace with a wink as they said goodbyes to the crowd and exited the stage. "Great job guys. You were both great!" She said to the boys as she hugged them. Her bandmates were of the few that she talked to and opened up to. Of course, Jace more so because he was her best friend ever. She could tell him anything and he was the only one she really did tell everything too. "I'm going back to the bus to shower and clean up. See you back there?" She said to them before she made her way back. She had no idea if they were going out or if they were going to sign some autographs. She normally would go to the tent after the show and stand and take pictures with fans and such, but tonight she just wasn't really feeling it. It was still a bit awkward for her to have all of the random strangers come up and want to talk to her. It wasn't that she thought she were better than that, she just wasn't that outgoing. Tonight was the first time really she wasn't going to talk to the fans and such. Sure, on her way back to the bus a couple of fans stopped her and asked for a couple pictures. She agreed and signed some things for them but then continued on her way to the bus. She felt disgusting and sweaty and really needed a shower. Taking one quickly, she got out and slipped on some clean fresh clothes with a smile. She felt much better now. It was still early, but Vada grabbed the book she was currently reading and lay down in her little bunk on the bus. She wasn't sure if the boys had come back yet or not but she didn't hear them. She shrugged as her eyes looked over the words, taking in the plot line and drama that unfolded as the story continued on the pages. Her energy was completely drained now because of the high level it had been at while performing. Before she knew it, her eyes were drifting closed, and she fell asleep with the book in her lap.
She wasn't even sure how long she had been asleep, or when she had fallen asleep even. However, she rolled over as she heard someone talking to her distantly. She ignored it at first, thinking she was just hearing things. She heard her name again and she rolled back over, scrunching her book underneath her and groaning because she did so. She sleepily pulled the now bent paperback from under her and tossed it on the floor in her half asleep state. Her eyes peeked open slightly to see Jace and she waved him away lightly. "Jace shhh. I'm sleeping." She mumbled. "Go to sleep too. We can best friend cuddle." Her words were all slurred and mumbled since she wasn't fully awake. She heard him say something about getting ice cream and she patted around in her bunk looking for her phone. When her hand came in contact with it, she pushed a button and held it to her face, squinting as the bright light made it pretty much impossible to make anything out on the screen. "No Jace. It's late. Ice cream tomorrow." She honestly wasn't sure if it were late or not as she hadn't been able to make out the time on her phone before giving up on seeing into the blinding light. She threw her phone back on her bunk somewhere and closed her eyes. She was just about to fall back asleep, happy that Jace had given up on whatever he had been going on about. However, just as she was almost sleeping again, her matress was moving and Jace was yelling something about an earthquake. Vada jolted up from it all and smacked her head off the bunk above her. "Ow!" She said as she lay back down for a minute, her hand on her forehead. She rolled out of her bunk and stood in front of him, "Fine Jace. You win." She ran a hand through her hair to unflatten it from her head. "Now where are we going?"

jace smoothed a tattooed hand down the planes of his stomach, as if he could detect the conspicuous absence of that sweet, creamy dairy product. he needed ice cream, and he felt in that moment a sense of unbridled urgency unlike any he had ever experienced in the past. okay, well, maybe that was a slight exaggeration, but still. his mouth watered at the very thought; something primal rumbled deep within his belly, reverberating through his fingers. he was fairly convinced now that this was a life or death situation. the yearning for ice cream was completely inhuman.
though his alarm clock read 12:32 AM in glaringly bright red lettering, he was as wide awake and jittery as if it were midday. now clearly agitated, he strode over to the freezer and opened it, naive hope filling his gaze. perhaps the ice cream fairy had paid him a visit in the night. his eyes racked the freezer with increasing desperation, until he finally closed the door with a thump that was like the tolling of a somber death march. he felt his stomach again, and it gurgled up at him, as if pleading. plz, it said sadly. me needz teh icecreemz. "i know, i know," he said solemnly, patting his tummy with rueful affection. it was quite evident that his quest for ice cream could not easily be abandoned; it would indeed be a perilous journey, reserved only for the brave at heart. jace needed someone who he knew he could count on to be his partner, his go-to person, someone who wouldn't hesitate in going to the ends of the earth for his ice cream. someone like vada.
vada, vada, vada. she'd do it. his best friend did everything with him. he rushed over to her bunk, fingers trembling with excitement. oh, it was going to be so delicious. he could taste the creamy sweetness already. "darth vadaaaa! vadavadavada, wake up. come on, this is important." he chattered frantically, bouncing marginally on the balls of his feet. he could see her stirring in the dark, her brown hair like an ink stain on the white pillow. she was mumbling something, most likely some sort of protest at his sudden intrusion to her sleep. he caught "sleeping" and "cuddle" but the rest was lost as she muttered into the cloth of her pillow. "vada! we have to get ice cream." his voice was strained with anxiety, careening into what could only be described as a whine. should anyone else said it with the same inflection, one would think their house was on fire or something equally catastrophic.
she stirred again, this time with more vigor, and from the depths of her bedsheets she produced a phone that blazed to life right in his face. he squinted at her through the light, his face a mask of pure distress."no jace. it's late. ice cream tomorrow." no, no, no. she didn't understand the urgency of the situation. he chewed thoughtfully on his lower lip, then emboldened by the promise of sweet ice cream, he descended on the poor mattress and began to jostle it with surprising energy.
"oh no, it's an earthquake! oh god, bobby, get the kids, GET THE KIDS, BOBBY. OH GOD, THE ROOF IS CAVING IN, OHHFALKSDNFAASDLKF BOOOOOOOOOMMMCRASHH." he was now throwing his weight against the bunk, causing it to shudder and groan with each violent shake. the bus itself was even moving; he could only imagine what it looked like from the outside. "STOP THE FIRE! CALL AN AMBULANCE! oh god, my leg--" FINE, JACE. YOU WIN. his "earthquake" was magically calmed by vada's now distinctly grumpy voice. he stopped, panting slightly, and collapsed onto her bunk, not particularly caring that he was laying across her legs. he wriggled up next to her, and grinned triumphantly. "we're going to get ice cream."
and then he was up and bouncing away, her hand tightly wound in his as he tugged her along, like so many other times in the past. he pulled her out the door and outside, where the quiet intensity of the late night willed his excited voice to drop into a whisper. quietly, albeit with a few youthful giggles here and there, he regarded her again. "since you agreed to this, you're obligated to help out. where are we going to get ice cream at this time of night?!" he spoke incredulously, as if it were her idea to come out in the middle of the night chasing jace's personal cravings. and he would get his ice cream. he was sure of it. he just wasn't exactly sure.. how. we lost ourselves in the bright lights ( I WISH YOU COULD HAVE SEEN US ) Showering felt so good after the high energy hot and sweaty show Party Of Three just put on. As Vada washed the sweat from her hair and face, she told herself that next show she had to go talk to fans. It may be odd to her the way they all wanted to talk to her, but they were the reason she could do what she loved everyday and be on the tour. She was sure if she tried to get out of it next time thought that Jace would drag her to the merch tent. So either way she figured she would be talking to them. She would have to get used to it some how. At least a good portion of the time she still had energy left from the show and was a little bit more talkative, but not by much. It wasn't that she was stuck up or thought she was better than that, she just didn't really like talking to people she didn't know? Not to mention it was a bit strange how a lot of them knew so much about her. Granted it was because of the few interviews she had done, but still. People knowing her life story when she barely knew their names was a bit weird to her. She would smile and nod and thank them for their support, sign some things and take a few pictures. Vay let the other boys do all the talking. They were good at it. So it worked out normally.
She got dressed in comfortable clean clothes and crawled into bed with a book in hand. She liked to read. It was relaxing and she could escape into the world of where ever the book took place. She liked to pretend she was the main characters, always fearless and adventurous. She got attatched to the characters in the books so easily and always cried at the end if anything bad happened to any of them. She would read the same book over and over and each time cry just as hard as if she hadn't seen the ending coming. She was a book nerd and she didn't care. She would rather be inside with her books than out getting all wasted and stumbling around like an idiot. That was definitely not her thing. Sure she had drank a couple times, and she didn't judge anyone who did. She just didn't do it anymore. She hated the feeling of being drunk. She felt like she had no control over anything she did and she did not like that at all. Plus she talked a lot when she was drinking and it embarrassed her the next morning. The few times she had gotten drunk she had apologized to everyone the next morning for how much she had talked and how she had been all over the place. Drinking was not for her, smoking on the other hand was a different story. She loved her cigarettes. She wanted one now that she was thinking of them but she was too lazy to get out of her bunk. Her mind was actually on having a cigarette as her eyes drifted close and she fell asleep.
Vada was not really sure what she was dreaming of, but all of a sudden in it she could hear someone speaking her name. She rolled over in her sleep as she started to half wake up. She crushed her book underneath her and threw it to the ground so she couldn't ruin it any further. She heard her name over and over and recognized it to be coming from Jace. Couldn't he see she was sleeping? She shushed him before rolling over and telling him he should sleep too, that they could even cuddle if he wanted. Apparently he didn't want to cuddle though. He wanted ice cream. His voice was urgent too, as if it were a life or death matter at hand. She groaned as she pulled her phone out to try and see what time it was. Failing at seeing through the bright light, she simply stated it was late and they could get ice cream tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow would be good. They could get up right away and go if he wanted, just so long as he let her get a little more sleep. It seemed like he was going to do just that as she didn't hear him say anything to her last comment. A soft smile appeared on her lips as she snuggled back into a comfortable position and felt her body begin to drift into sleep once more. She was sure she would dream about getting ice cream now, as it would be the last thing on her mind before she fell back asleep.
However, she wasn't falling back asleep. Her eyes jolted open as Jace began shaking her matress and yelling about an earthquake and grabbing the kids. He was causing her whole bunk, and even the bus, to move and it was nearly impossible for her to ignore it all and go back to bed. She sprung up and smacked her head off the bunk above her. "Jace shh! I'm up! FINE!" She exclaimed as he lay across her and told her they were going for ice cream. She groaned again as he smiled at her like he had won, well he had, but still. He was up and ready and she pushed her blankets off of herself and rolled out of bed. She searched for her phone once more, this time she was able to see the time that read on the screen. "Jaacee," She whined slightly. "It's almost one in the morning!" She had figured it had been late but hadn't realized it was almost one. She managed to grab her wristlet that she carried everywhere and slip her flats on as Jace grabbed her hand and pulled her off of the bus. How he had this much energy right now was beyond her. She could easily crawl back into bed and fall asleep once more. He seemed like he could be up for hours more with the energy he had inside of him.
She dug through her small wristlet for a moment before she pulled out a cigarette and a lighter and inhaled the wonderful smoke into her lungs. She had been craving one before she fell asleep so it only made sense that when she was jerked outside, she went to smoking one. She blew the smoke out of the side of her mouth and away from Jace. She gave him an are you serious look when he asked her where they were going to get ice cream. It had been his idea and the way he said it made it seem like she had been the one to drag him out of bed. "Hmm.. well. Is walmart or some grocery store open? They have cartons of ice cream don't they?" She gave her best friend a shrug before breathing in another puff of smoke and letting it out, flicking the ashes off the end of the cigarette. "You couldn't have gotten hungry for ice cream before I fell asleep could you?" She teased him as they started walking off in whatever direction they were going in search of the ice cream Jace apparently needed to save his life right now. She loved him to death, he was her best friend, but he was crazy sometimes. He was always dragging her on one adventure or another.

he tugged thoughtfully at the bedraggled strands that hung from the mop of tawny hair upon his head, marginally displacing the rather comical sailor hat that was perched precariously amid his brown locks. he was always fond of anything nautical in nature; he never sailed, of course, but the freedom of the sport appealed to him. he owned anchor merchandise and sailor outfits, and had even gone so far as to tattoo anchors upon the backs of his hands; when asked as to the relevance of such marks, jace would spout some well-rehearsed tale somehow relating anchors to his vague philosophy on life, when in actuality, he just thought they looked quite dandy.
for about the twentieth time that evening, jace forced himself to focus back on the task at hand. vada was saying something about how he couldn't have gotten hungry for ice cream at a more opportune moment. "vada, vada, vada," his voice suddenly took on a wise and presumptuous air, colored with joking sagacity as if he were speaking to a small child. "do not doubt the urgency of the call of frozen dairy products. the need for rest pales in comparison." he waved her off dismissively, as if the topic was painfully obvious. he was fairly sure that the rest of the crew wouldn't mind him taking the rental for a midnight spin; surely they could understand the primal, undeniable calling that was jace's cravings? of course.
on a whim, his hand snaked into the pockets of his jeans and closed around the sharp metal of the car keys. he'd forgotten he'd left them in his pocket since earlier today. triumphant, he brandished with a theatrical air at vada, who was looking supremely irritated, a cigarette wedged firmly between her pursed lips. his look of exultant happiness was dampened by the cigarette smoke that was now curling around the pair, and he felt a frown tug at his lips. ugh. jace hated when people smoked, but he happened to put up with it around vada. thus, he said nothing, but grabbed hold of her sleeve and tugged her out into the night.
they came upon the rental car in moments, and without hesitation, jace all but threw himself in the drivers seat. "comeoncomeoncomeon." he bounced in his seat, the keys already poised and cocked, car rumbling to life beneath him. jace smiled as his best friend came around and got into the passengers seat, and they were off into the night, chasing jace's impulsive whims and cravings. we lost ourselves in the bright lights ( I WISH YOU COULD HAVE SEEN US ) Vada wished she could say she were surprised in the slightest that Jace was dragging her out of bed at one in the morning for ice cream. However, Jace did crazy things like this all the time. Not to mention, he was her best friend and so she was constantly drug along on things like this. She didn't mind it though. Rarely did she object to the adventures he asked her to go on. Sure sometimes they were a little out there, such as now, but she didn't question where his mind came up with the ideas they did. She didn't mind so much as it kept her on her toes and her life a bit interesting. Jace was one of the few she wasn't so shy around. She was actually pretty outgoing and could be decently loud and out there when she was with Jace. However, once they got around others, she was shy again. Sure their fans saw a part of her crazy self on stage, but no one saw her like that off stage really. She was simply guarded. She didn't want people to judge her and she honestly didn't trust too many people. Like said, Jace was her bestie. So of course she trusted him. She told him everything and did everything with him. Like now she was agreeing to go get the ice cream he seemed to need so badly at this time of night. She slipped on her shoes and was drug outside where she lit up a cigarette. She was a chain smoker by far. She knew Jace hated it so tried her hardest not to around him. That was why she was doing it now and getting it out of the way. Then she would attempt not to have another one until after they got back and Jace went to bed.
She laughed lightly as Jace looked at her excitedly, showing her the key to the rental car that had been in his pocket. She inhaled her cigarette again and breathed out the smoke, aiming it with her lips away from Jace. He tugged on her sleeve, pulling her off and she jerked forward, following him. As she did so, her cigarette slipped from her fingers, landing on the ground behind them. She frowned but didn't stop to get it. She had more and it was probably best she didn't smoke around Jace anyway. He never said anything to her about it, but by the look on his face when he saw her smoking, she could tell he hated it. They came to the rental car within moments and he climbed in, starting it up. She opened her door and slid in as well. She placed her seat belt on and sat back as Jace stepped on the gas and they were off. She was glad Jace was driving because not only was she too tired to do so, but she didn't even have her license. She had her permit. Well, an expired one. She had had it for over a year so it was no good anymore. She would have to renew it before she could try for her licenses again. She had failed the test once. She honestly didn't like driving. It scarred her a little bit. Plus she had a hard time learning how to parallel park. Her and her mother had argued in the car for a good hour about in when she was trying to learn. She just didn't get how you were supposed to do it or why you needed it. She didn't need to drive really anyway. Her friends could and her siblings could and they usually took her where she needed to get.
"Aren't you tired, Jaceface?" Vada asked him as she yawned slightly. She didn't think he had even gone to sleep yet. She had been drained from the show and had passed out easily. She watched as they passed a dairy queen which was closed and another little ice cream place that had mini golf which was closed as well. "We are probably going to have to hit up a grocery store or something." She said. It was late and that would probably be the only thing open that had ice cream. They drove a bit more and Vada simply looked around at their surroundings, "Does this thing have a GPS in it? I hope we don't get lost in this place!" Now that would certainly be an adventure as the bus was leaving around nine the next morning to make way to the next stop on the tour. It would not be a good thing if they got lost and didn't make it back to the bus on time. Jace could drive them sure, but only if they knew where they were going and she definitely did not.
