she's trouble in a tank top
pretty little time bomb, blowing up
the only thing that could wake olivia from her deep sleep was the sound of her brother blasting his music from the living room. turning onto her back, she groaned and blinked her eyes a few times, letting them adjust to the light. the room was still semi-dark, her curtains washing the walls in the red color they were, keeping most of the light out. looking at the clock, she was glad she hadn’t slept in any longer. she had a few hours before her only class today started and she was actually kind of thankful for her brother waking her up. she didn’t want sleep through her class, even if she was dead tired after all the partying she did last night. rubbing her eyes, she rolled off her mattress where it sat on the floor, grabbed some pajama pants and pulled them on over her underwear. only when she stood up did she realize her head was pounding . she cursed under her breath, opened her door and walked into the bathroom, yelling at her brother to turn his fucking music down as she went. opening the medicine cabinet, she grabbed the bottle of aspirin, shook a few out into her hand and popped them into her mouth. she turned the knob on the sink and bent down to drink the water, swallowing the pills. olivia splashed some water on her face, closed the medicine cabinet and looked in the mirror.
frankly, she looked like shit. eyeliner and mascara were smeared under her eyes, her hair was a complete mess, and her eyes were bloodshot. she couldn’t help but laugh, she looked ridiculous but it was worth it. last night had been nothing but fun. well, from what she could remember about last night was. she turned on the shower, jumped in and scrubbed away all the traces of the night before. she got out, wrapped a towel around herself, she walked back to her bedroom, kicking the laundry on her floor around, trying to find something clean to wear. she threw on a pair of old jeans, a nirvana t-shirt she had stolen from one of her exes and her beat up converse. walking into the kitchen her brother finally turned down his music when he saw her. he then proceeded to make a joke about her being alive, tell her she still looked like shit, had come home last night completely fucking wasted and had rambled on about how much she loved him and how good of a younger brother he was. she didn’t have the strength to tell him to fuck off, so she flipped him off instead. she poured herself some coffee and grabbed a donut from the box on the counter her brother must have gotten this morning and then joined him on the couch.
he was playing modern warfare two on the xbox she rarely used but kept here for when he came and stayed with her. “you’re such a dick.” she told him, smiling at his enthusiasm when he killed some russian guy. he laughed at her and agreed. ‘and you’re a bitch.’ he replied, which she could only agree with. taking a drink of her coffee, she couldn’t help but think how she loved her younger brother more than she loved anyone else and that was saying something. she got along with him more than a lot of people and he put up with most if not all of her bullshit, so she always loved it when he came around. they sat there for awhile, finishing their coffee and donuts, talking about nothing. after awhile she looked at the clock, sighed and stood up. “i better get going or i’ll be late for class.” she grabbed her purse and keys from where she threw them the night before by the door and looked at him. “don’t make a mess while i’m gone and stay out of trouble. your skate rat friends can come over but don’t bring some random you pick up back here to fuck. go to her place.” olivia gave him her best ‘i fucking mean it’ face, left her apartment and got in her car.
she got to her class with ten minutes to spare and spent the whole hour staring at her professor not really paying attention and was one of the first ones out the door when class was over. olivia walked slowly back to her car, letting the sun shine on her face. it was such a nice day out and despite herself, she couldn’t help but be in a good mood. deciding against going back home and doing her school work, she settled on going to the park and lounging under the sun. she drove with her windows down blasting whatever station wasn’t playing crap. she ended up on an oldies station, singing along to a song her parents used to sing all the time. as much as she loved all the new music out there these days, she still loved listening to the classics. it always brought her back to when her parents forced all her siblings and her into the car for long periods of time and they’d play nothing but the beatles or the rolling stones. liv, pulled into the first parking space she could find and made her way into the park. she watched the flocks of children playing on the playground and people walking their dogs. she smiled at the joggers who passed and tried not to get in their way, something she wouldn’t have done if she wasn’t in such a good mood. a couple of college guys she recognized from frat parties were tossing a football back and forth between them, a few of them yelling for her to come join them. she smiled and waved but continued along the path.
olivia found a secluded corner near some trees where no one would notice her. she sat down on the grass, emptied her bag and combed through all the books and oddments that feel out. most of the books were ones she was reading for school with a few of her own mixed in, other than that she just had a bunch of crap she couldn’t help but keep with her like nail polish, random notes and her favorite lighter. she knew she should be reading the assigned books but didn't really feel like it. she picked up her worn out copy of pride and prejudice instead. it was one of her favorite books and it was to perfect a day to pass up reading it outside. she shoved everything else back into her bag and set it against the tree next to her. picking up her pack of cigarettes, she took one out, thankful she was in suck a secluded area. she didn’t want any moms or other park goers to get their panties in a twist for her smoking, not that she would have given a shit if they did. olivia brought it up to her lips, flicked open her lighter and lit it. she inhaled, letting the smoke fill her mouth and lungs, then lazily exhaled. she smiled, picked up her book, opened it to the first page and began reading.open | one two oh eight | rambly and blah but i kinda like it?
