Ashlynn Maddox thrived off of being busy and that was that. To be honest, she could barely remember the past few years simply from the fact that she had honestly, and literally, thrown herself into her job. It was definitely a good thing that she adored her job; after all, she probably wouldn’t have put so much time and effort into it had she hated it. Frankly, the girl couldn’t deal with not being able to hate her job; it was what kept her mind busy so that she wouldn’t dwell on the past. Ashlynn just wasn’t that sort of person…past dwelling, heh. What a waste of time. Yet sometimes she would find herself zoning out into her mug of tea or coffee, thinking about how things could have been and how things were. God she always felt so pathetic when that would happen and normally, she would be able to get a grip of herself and force her mind onto more important matters at hand which typically, you guessed it, dealt with her job.
For whatever reason though, Ashlynn woke up to find herself in one of those moods. She had no idea why; the weather seemed nice, there was sun, she was her normal self, and she had even gone to bed in a good mood. However, when she woke up at six thirty, she immediately wanted to roll back over and fall asleep. The persistent beeping of her alarm made her want to gouge her ears out or something; the day was going to be bad and she could already tell. When she finally rolled out of bed, a good half hour late, she decided to skip her usual shower and to throw her hair up into some pathetic attempt at a messy bun. Normally, Ash didn’t use her status in the company to her advantage, but when she felt like shit and looked like shit, she was definitely going to look a lot less professional than she normally did. When she was finally out of the door, running twenty minutes later, she simply licked her lips, and was out with her camera in hand.
Of course, a blah mood would create blah pictures and finally, after a few hours of just being blah, Ashlynn decided that she needed to take a nice, long break to get a nice, big cup of steaming hot coffee. Ah, coffee, that would definitely solve everything and just the thought made the twenty year old smiley with a bit more spirit than she had been minutes before. Okay, so maybe she was a bit of a caffeine addict. She had to be considering the fact she went to bed in the early hours of the morning and woke up at six thirty no matter what.
She finally was able to take her break and the first thing she did was pull out her phone, tapping an application that would point her to her destination: Starbucks. Within seconds, she had her directions, and she took off at a brisk walk, ready to have the caffeine she desperately needed in her hands. She knew it was rather silly that she was this obsessed with getting some coffee, but hey, a girl had to do what a girl had to do. And man, Ashlynn definitely thought she heard the Halleluiah Chorus when she saw the familiar sign pointing to the familiar store. Thank the Lord, it was about time! She slipped inside the doors, deeply inhaling the pungent scent of coffee and she immediately felt her mood shift into a much happier, much more normal mood. “Hi,” She said, softly, to the cashier who was standing in front of her with a smile. “A venti vanilla latte, please.” She offered her own smile but Ashlynn had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t that great of one. She quickly paid and made her way to a table, waiting to hear her name called. Of course, time would pass extremely slowly when she was in a caffeine deprived and horrible mood; she idly began to wonder if this was God’s way of somehow punishing her for some unknown sin of hers.
Finally, she heard her name and she jumped up, snatching her coffee like it was some sort of prize, and she lifted her cup to her nose, inhaling the familiar scent of vanilla mixed with a latte. “Thank God.” She murmured, making her way to the nearest door. Once outside, she glanced around, looking for an empty , outdoors table. There was nothing like drinking a hot coffee in slightly chilly, spring like weather after all. Ashlynn was definitely lucky; she was able to spot a set of empty iron chairs around a matching table that she immediately claimed for herself with a happy, thankful sigh. The day was still young; there was still room for change. All hope was not lost.
