Technically, she wasn’t the out-doorsy type. It wasn’t as if Evan was a major fan of nature. She didn’t seek out nature trails, she didn’t freak out about saving the environment. Actually, she wasn’t all that concerned about anything having to do with the environment as long as it wasn’t busy wrecking her life. She was just sick of being inside. She hated being still, she hated being quiet, and she hated being bored. Buses had become the norm, and she was quickly getting bored with her surroundings. You can only do so much on a bus you share with a bunch of guys. Speaking of which, she was getting a little bored with the boys that were her usual company.
Determined to break out of what had become routine, Evan had decided to go outside for as much of the day as she could stand. She wasn’t really familiar with any of the parks in the area, so even if she didn’t find anyone amazing to keep her company, she’d at least have unfamiliar surroundings to explore. She was kind of hoping someone else had the same idea, though. She was horrid at being alone. It made her think too much, and thinking just made her overanalyze things… It was always a bad situation.
Dressing for the weather was harder than it really should have been. It was probably because Evan wasn’t used to traveling so much, and she couldn’t really predict what it was going to be like all the time. If you coupled that with the fact that she lived with a bunch of guys, and the bus was kind of a mess, it practically took half the day to get dressed. By the time she’d found a full outfit (a pair of faded skinny jeans, a white tee-shirt with a sequined heart on it, a flannel shirt to go over it, and her favorite sequined Chuck Taylors), it was after noon. It might be worth mentioning that she hadn’t gotten out of the bed until nearly eleven, and she’d showered before even bothering to find clothes, so it only seemed like a major ordeal. Still, it took long enough to make Ev impatient.
She wasn’t any stranger to walking. Having dropped out of high school made it pretty tough to get a job that paid enough for her to have a car or even take a taxi, so Evan had been walking wherever she wanted to go for years now. It was easier when she knew where she was going, but sometimes getting lost was nearly as much fun as whatever entertainment might have been awaiting her. As it was, she managed to get lost four times while looking for the nearest park. Her detours took her into an incense shop, a silly little store geared toward tourists, a gas station, and a palm reading house. She’d neglected offers for services and products at each place, but she’d had a fun little conversation about reincarnation with the woman that read palms. The lady seemed to think Evan had been a man in her past life, and Evan had to agree. It would explain a lot of her tendencies.
By the time she finally got to the park, she was ready to settle in and relax for a little while. Or she would have been if she was actually capable of such things. She never actually relaxed, but she could sit around and pretend like it with the best of them!
She wandered aimlessly for a few minutes before finally heading over to a comfy-looking tree. She grabbed one of the lower branches and pulled herself up, climbing up a bit and taking a seat. Yeah, it put her out of the way and she might not be noticed. It gave her a really good seat for watching people, though, and if she was lucky, she might even get to torment a few people from up there.
