oh my distorted smile will tighten its grip now somebody is asking when you will disappear - - * -------------------------- Riley supposed it was quite apt he would end up in a rock band as the drummer. In fact, he would have been surprised if his mother and father had expected anything else of him when he was just a baby. He'd been told that as soon as he could walk he was hitting things, yes, normally with his head which included the edge of bar table when he was eventually tall enough. It wasn't just that though... it was also the fact that Riley had an way more energy than any nineteen year old should possibly have. The drums at least gave him (and everyone else) something to release all that pent up energy into something productive. Riley loved playing them, partly for the reason of being able to hit something, but also because it was such a strong instrument. Sure, he couldn't just pick up his entire kit and hoist it around to an acoustic set or you know, play without the neighbours complaining. But that didn't matter. There was no mistaking the drums and it was original, something Riley thought was pretty damn amazing. Looking up and his chest breathing heavily, Riley's eyes looked across the fans briefly in the distance. Licking his lips, he lifted both his arms and brought them down with considerable force once to smack his floor tom and snare. His body rocked a little at the imaginary beat in his head as the guitar and bass sounded through his ear plugs as he prepared to join back into the song.
All for Dayna were whole again, thank God. Apparently Garret and Kelley had made up which brought their lead guitarist back to the band. Riley was also apparently pretty much the only member who had spoken to Garret whilst he was gone... he tried to not get involved in the inner band arguments. It was partly because it was too confusing and bewildering to think about why the hell best friends were fighting in the first place, and two because he saw no need to get involved in something he had nothing to do with him. Garret had never done anything to him after all. Well... nothing that wasn't done on purpose as part of their friendly banter friendship anyway. Starting his beat on the bass drum with his right foot softly, Riley cracked his head sideways a bit and with one last soft build up beat on the bass, paused for a moment I the silence before effectively going wild on the drums. It was his favourite moment of the show because it was the song with the craziest drum beat to it as it was a bit heavier then a few of their other tunes. The fans always responded well, as could be seen now if Riley wasn't preoccupied with somehow managing to achieve in hitting every single one of his drums in the kit in a tiny space of time. Spinning his drumstick in the middle of it was purely just for his own entertainment as he knew it was unlikely the fans were watching him at the back... probably Kelley rather as the front man. Made sense he supposed and it wouldn't bother Riley too much anyway... he was busy enough as it was thank you. Who knew? Riley was preoccupied. Still, it wasn't just like a ritual to him like it was to other musicians who simply did a show but already thinking about the next one. It was only small and most people wouldn't notice the change, but Riley had added extra beats when he felt like it. The song was still fine and if anything added a little extra in impact subconsciously. His head was angled down as his arms continued to work extra hard as the song was at its climax. It might hurt his muscles and hands later on but it was worth it for the fans, band and show right now.
So involved in the song, Riley only felt that there was more air reaching the top of his head when he coming up to play the last part of the song. Hitting the symbol once and the snare in a double snap to stop completely, Riley lifted his hand to head and noticed one significant thing. His hat was gone. Frowning, Riley glanced behind him quickly to make sure it hadn't fallen off whilst he'd been going crazy on the kit but it wasn't there. Bringing his eyes slowly to the front, his stomach suddenly had a new acquaintance in the form of his heart as he saw what had happened to it. Kelley. The bastard. Shaking his head slowly, Riley stood with the same speed. That was a good hat that, one of his favourites and if Kelley was going to throw it to the crowd he would never, ever get it back judging by the outstretched hands and the screaming. His legs felt a bit numb from playing almost an entire set with as much gusto as possible, but this was one of his favourite's hats in contest here. "Don't do it, Gaston." Riley spoke slowly and over the top as there would be no way the lead singer would be able to hear him over the crowd but it was obvious what was being said. Using his fingers to spike his platinum hair after it was flat from the hat, Riley blinked and let his mouth fall open ever so slightly as his favourite accessory flew like a frisbee into the crowd. He watched the fight that happened over it for a moment before his head tilted and his blue eyes focused onto the lead singer, looking at him in a way which if it could talk, would speak "what the fuck." Luckily for Kelley, Riley was not one to hold a grudge and although saddened by the death of his lovely hat, was not exactly going to hold it against his friend. He maintained eye contact just long enough to understand what this opportunity presented and in a way that was only applicable to Kelley and Riley's friendship, what it meant.
Getting straight into character, Riley locked his jaw a little and then pushed his crash symbol over so he could get out of the drum surrounding. As it hit the ground and he stepped over it, Riley almost wanted to turn around and nurse the thing better apologetically. Thank god for sponsors, simply. Unplugging his ears from the headphones, Riley managed to keep a straight face despite the worried looks he could see front row of the crowd. If only they knew him better they would know that Riley never got in a fight with anyone unless they'd done something drastic, like ran over sparky or something. That was the exact reason Kelley would surely have picked up on this. It was hardly the first time they'd staged some public fight. Stalking over to Kelley, Riley shoved him a bit backwards whilst shouting "what the fuck you doing?" His Surrey, England accent made his words more pronounced but he didn't care. Riley had way gotten used to the Brit jokes that would be thrown at him and Rhys on a daily basis... often they were actually quite funny since they could throw them back in equal amounts. "You know that's my favourite hat!" Riley pushed Kelley again, although it wasn't nearly as hard as he could. He didn't actually want to hurt his friend after all. The gasps from the crowd made it actually pretty funny to the prankster. This was the kind of reaction Riley thrived off his whole life. The first and the second time he'd been expelled from school in England consisted of those reactions... some in more ways then one if the business with his old student teacher was anything to go by.

just how good it felt to be surrounded by-a-town-that-we-knew-like-the-back-of-our-hands we felt alive, hoped for the first time
doing shows was something that kelley loved. he was always crazy as anything on stage, the one time he was allowed to be crazy without worrying about what people would really think about him. outside of the stage persona, he was constaly worrying about dayna, and how people saw him because he was already a father of a two year old at twenty. sure, it wasn't exactly the best thing in the world, but kelley wouldn't trade his current lifestyle for anything. hell, he would be depressed as shit and back on his drugs in no time if none of this was happening. glancing over at the guys as he belted out soem of the lyrics, he felt himself grinning. the band was honestly better now that garret had come back. kelley had been keeping an eye on him ever since though. kelley was in no way letting garret fuck up his life again. well, any more than he already had. but kelley wasn't going to say that. garret really hadn't said much to him, and kelley was keeping his mouth shut on his own personal opinions of garret's choices unless garret had asked him for them. he didn't want to cause another fucking fight with that kid. he knew he didn't need that on his head nowadays anymore.
as he turned around as it was a break in lyrics and a guitar solo, he felt a smirked grow on his face as he spotted riley. him and riley always had random things going down on stage that got kelley's blood going. their fake fights were the best. mostly because, no matter how many times they fought on stage and fans saw it, they were always caught off guard when they saw the two band members fighting. they were fun, kelley had to admit. sure, there had been a few times where they had seriously hurt each other, most notably the black eyes they had given each other a few shows back. that had been an interesting one to explain to people. but yes. they hadn't done anything like that in a while. in fact, since garret had left they hadn't goofed around on stage lately.... as he realized that it was near his turn tos tart singing again, he decided to make his way. heading over towards the back where riley was going crazy on the drums as per usual, he swiped the hat off his head and headed back towards his own little part of the stage, throwing riley's hat on his own head for a bit as he resumed singing. riley was hella protective of his hat, kelley knew that. thus, what made his a lot more fun.
he could already hear the song coming towards the end. pulling the hat off his head, he finished off the lyrics to let the guys do their thing with the end of the song. he flashed a smirk to the audience at large as he heard riley's double snap, signaling the end of the song, he decided to wait a few seconds. he knew that riley, by then, would have figured out what happened to his hat. moving towards the mic, he waved the hat up in the air before announcing. "so, who wants a free hat?" he glanced back at riley really quick, the smirk still on his face as kelley moved his arm back and threw the hat forward with as much strength as he could. he watched the blue hat soar through the air before landing a good twenty something feet away from the stage. he watched as a mad scramble for it started, and he couldn't help but laugh as it went on. he loved fans, he really did. smirking slightly, he waved his hand to them randomly as he heard a crash symbol from behind him. turning around, he saw riley coming over towards him. he felt the smirk fall off his face, but it wasn't from surprise or anything. kelley knew what the hell was coming up.
feeling riley shove him back, he caught his balance quickly as riley asked him what the fuck was he doing. he tried not to smirk; riley being serious always made kelley want to laugh. he wasn't used to it. hitching a serious look on his face, kelley took a step forward. shoving riley's shoulder back, he tried to get an anger tone in his voice. "what the fuck is your problem?" he stared at riley as he felt riley shove him back again. it wasn't hard at all. they hadn't really ever done anything serious to each other, other than black eyes. taking a giant step forward, kelley pushed him back, maybe a little harder than he thought he had. "dude, fucking lighten up. you can get another stupid hat!" god, he wanted to just laugh. the fans that were right near the stage looked as though they wanted to jump up in between them and keep the band members from fighting. or they just wanted to see in the middle of it so they could say they were in between kelley and riley, who knew. fans were crazy at times.
raising an eyebrow at riley, kelley took a step forward. they had been through this routine plenty of times. that was kelley's hint to riley that he was going to pounce. okay, not pounce, but you get it. they're fights often ended with them rolling around on the ground and making it look as good as possible. kelley didn't really know how the guys reacted to it. they often just stared at the pair, or walked off. they were used to the kelley/riley craziness that was sure to happen on stage. so, without a moment's hesitation, kelley ran ahead, ramming into riley. he tried not to do it too hard, but just enough so that it looked believable to the crowd. this was honestly how the two boys got their kicks. it was a thing that kept the audience on their feet, and if riley and kelley had any emotion built up inside them, it sure as hell helped get that emotion out.
tag - leigh as riley <3 - words - one oh three eight - it's not my best but it's done? xD

oh my distorted smile will tighten its grip now somebody is asking when you will disappear - - * -------------------------- Pushing over his crash symbol, Riley would never in a million years have done it if was one of his own drum kits and not one of their touring ones. The biggest perk in Riley's eyes of being in a band on tour was not the food, not the partying although that was pretty good too but instead it was the sponsors. In fairness most of the good things about tour were created by the sponsors but they allowed Riley to get his hands on some of the best pieces of equipment in the country to play one set on. As long as whenever he mentioned his kit he would mention the drum name he was all set which was pretty easy since the blonde talked like a million words a second anyway. It was all part of his charm. It was possibly also one of the main reasons why these mock fights he and Kelley had on stage were so amusing. A fight of any kind was completely out of character for Riley... hell, he barely ever raised his voice unless he was moaning at Rhys cheating on the xbox or something. It was never serious anyway. Or, it never appeared serious like now. Riley wouldn't claim to be the best actor in the world but drama had been one of his favourite subjects at school as it let him be a prat and get good marks for it. His obnoxiousness wasn't really one that could grate on your nerves, not to mention the blonde boy couldn't hold a grudge if his life depended on it. In all honesty it was most likely because he forgot.
Crossing the stage, Riley walked past the other members of the band toward Kelley standing centre stage. He could still mildly see a fight still happening with the hat in the crowd, perhaps after the show he could try sweet talk the person into giving it him back. He wasn't lying, it really was one of his favourites hat and not a cheap one either. Shoving his close friend and shouting alongside it with the question of what he was playing at. It would never get old. It was also extra amusing when someone posted a video of it on you tube and the comments underneath normally received some good form of laughter to go alongside. The time they had actually hurt one another with the black eyes had definitely provided some laughs for the band. Riley kept his face down turned as Kelley returned the shove on his shoulder before continuing the acting with the exclamation about it being his favourite hat. Again, an actual truth. Hearing Kelley reply again, Riley waited for the shove and was even a little surprised as Kelley pushed him harder then they usually did at this point. He wasn't... serious, was he? It wouldn't be the first time he'd misread a situation. Quirking an eyebrow ever so slightly and his face threatening to burst into laughter, he managed to keep it reigned in, particularly when Kelley matched his stare and stepped forward once. Yep, he knew then he hadn't misread the situation. It was the usual routine and Riley changed the balancing of his feet to be ready for it, although it was subtle and probably completely unnoticed by the crowd. Raising an obvious eyebrow, his head angled so the crowd could see, it appeared like he was taunting his friend to try it between their silence.
"Go on then, bitch." Riley managed to get out just before Kelley ploughed into his waist, the force actually pushing him back. He used his hands to grab Kelley's shirt to hold on a bit and kept an angry face on, although it was hard with the huge gasp and a couple of screams that came form the crowd. The drummer just about managed to keep his balance as he was shoved back a couple of feet before he found his footing and stopped them, pushing Kelley away from him. Who cared the muscles in his arms were aching a little from playing almost a full set? This was way too entertaining to let it go. He didn't know what the rest of the band was doing but he did for an instant see one of the techs with his arms crossed and just watching them with a grin. It was true, it was fun and they were quite good at making it believable. Acting as soon as he could after pushing the singer away, Riley used the opportunity to grab Kelley and grapple a bit before they both fell sideways onto the floor, the blonde rolling once over from the momentum. Riley landed on his back and lifted his head a bit confused for a minute before he remembered what he was supposed to be doing and grabbed back onto Kelley, the two of them trying to get on top to be declared the winner.
Riley pushed his hand against Kelley's face, trying to mush it in. They didn't punch each other... that would be dangerous and they didn't actually want to hurt each other. It was just wrestling after all. It happened in the bus on tour more then he could count. The best ones were when Kelley wasn't expecting it and Riley would climb on top of the bus, somehow for it was tall, to jump down on him when the singer walked out. It was a bummer when he didn't come out for about an hour like he had expected one time in summer and Riley had ended up with a sun burnt neck. The jump down had been worth it though. "hjdfj... wanker." Riley managed to get out past the singer somehow muffling what he was saying. His eyes widened a bit in shock when he suddenly found himself on top, his hands managing to pin Kelley's down. The blonde hadn't expected that! "I win." Riley tilted his head from the crowd and finally let out a small smirk. Flaying limbs started moving from them both as the wrestle resumed, the noise picking up from the crowd again from the small break they'd both had. Riley's hands darted from pinning Kelley's wrists to his own crotch area as one of said limbs slammed into his lower region. "Oh... shit." He whispered in pain and fell to the side of his friend, both of his hands at the area to try and stem the pain. He knew it was probably an accident but still, it hurt like a bitch. Rolling over again, Riley pushed his forehead onto the floor of the stage and pretty much curled up. At the force behind the limb, every man in the room would sympathise with the drummer at that point and tilting his head to look at Kelley through narrowed in pain eyes, Riley released his hand to smack the guy in the same area. If he was in this pain, one of his best friends would have to be too.
