so, let's start off with the basics. what's your name?Well my full name is Jamie Sarina Spencer, given to me by my parents. Jamie is something my mum just always loved and she had it picked out from before I was even concieved. She refused to even consider changing her mind but let dad pick out my middle name to make things fair. He chose Sarina, which is a cool name, but my dad - being the super eccentric guy he is, had to change the spelling. I guess that's cool though, because I think being different is fun. My name morphed into quite a few nicknames when I was a kid. My mum called me Jay-bird and my dad called me Jam, as in the stuff you put on a sandwich. They're the only people who can get away with that. Everyone else calls me Jay. Kind of like Blue Jay, but without the colours, I guess.
oh, it's a nice name! now, would you mind telling us how old you are?I'm twenty-three, which to me is pretty young. But I guess when you really look at it, I'm more than halfway to forty, which is scary. I don't want to get old. But I still love having birthdays. Mine is April fourth, making me a spring baby, which is awesome.
really? you look much younger! well, let's get started. first off, what are you on this tour? You really think I look younger? Haha, you're my new best friend, okay? But seriously, back to business...I'm the general manager for BNI. I know, pretty important sounding, isn't it? Well that's cause it's a pretty important job. But I feel that I do it well, you know? This company is like my life.
oh! so how did you first get involved with batteries not included records?I always loved music. I play quite a bit myself, but you'll never see me rocking out a stage. I hate performing in front of people. Scares me, you know? But yeah, I played the keyboard and the saxophone since I was a wee little girl and I decided to go to school for it. Mum and dad weren't all that pleased and forced me to take something else. And so, I graduated just a couple of years ago from UCLA with a double major in music and business. After that, I just went out looking for a job and I met the founder of BNI. He hired me to do some odd jobs, but I quickly worked my way up the ladder. I thank my promising work ethic...Oh, now I sound conceited. Whatever. That's pretty much my story. I'm a uni-nerd.
oh gosh, really? all right, so, how are you enjoying it so far? It's like that whole, chocolate is better than sex thing, you know? Working here is better than anything I could have ever asked for. You meet a whole bunch of interesting people and like..wow. I just can't even describe it. I get to see the world and make money, which is everyone's dream, right?
that's great! so, what do you do in your free time when you are not working? You mean besides dancing in front of my mirror in my boxers? I like to have fun, basically. But my idea of fun may be a little different than yours. I play a bit of music, just when I'm sitting around at home doing nothing all that fun. My dad rocks on the guitar and my mom likes to sing, so we have family music night. It's a big deal when I actually am at home. I read comics too. Batman is my favourite. I like to party a little bit, especially in the big cities. I mean, come on who doesn't want to get plastered on Bourbon Street? But I'm not a big drinker. I like tequila. I probably shouldn't be talking about that stuff, in case kids read this. Let's see...more positive hobbies? Uhm...I bake cookies whenever I can get my hands on an oven. I own my own Easy-Bake though, which is fun, but if I wanted to bake for more than two people it'd take me years. I used to dance when I was a kid. Ballet and jazz and I think I still got it. I like skiing too. I'm more of a cross country girl, but I definitely won't shy away from the slopes. Laziest hobby would have to be watching television. I don't like a lot of shows, but I could kick back and watch House or Dexter for hours and hours and hours.
oh, i love some of those too! looks like we have alot in common.Haha, I told you we were best friends. You're totally awesome!
so, how has your romantic past been?Oh romance. Well I'm not really one to kiss and tell, but there have been a few guys here and there. My first boyfriend was in kindergarten. His name was Benny and we got married at recess. I've never felt the same way about anyone after that. Haha, but for real? I've dated a bit here and there but I've never had anything real serious. I'm pretty ambitious and love goes on the backburner for me. But relationships are nice. Gee, now I sound like a personal ad.
and what about now? is that any better? any different?Single, my friend. Have been for nine and half months now. I'm pretty used to the single life and I don't mind it all that much. It's way more free. But that's not why it's cool, you know? I just feel like serious relationships are so...tedious. It's like, you spend so much time worrying about making this one other person happy that you end up totally miserable yourself. Okay, so maybe I sound bitter. I've never been in love so I wouldn't know what it feels like.
oh, i see.. hmm... and, what would you say are your turn ons? do you have any turn offs?Let's see. What do I look for in a guy? Southern charm, sauveness and a killer accent. So basically, Gambit from the X-Men. Seriously. He's so awesome. A guy for me would have to be someone like that...with that bad boy attitude who would treat the girl of his dreams like a princess. Every girl wants to be a princess, right? My guy needs to get romance but give me my space, you know? I hate being smothered. That's a turn-off. That, lame pick up lines, and guys who are totally self-absorbed. It's like, ew, get the hell over yourself, buddy. Haha. Oh! And I love guys who have a great sense of humour. Immature at times, but a dude you can kick back with and have an intelligent conversation. And he has to be able to deal with mum and dad.
ooh, that's understandable, mhm. so, give us a bit of detail about yourself.About me? I'm not really all that complicated. If I wasn't working for BNI, I'd definitely be a superhero, which I think is a good way to sum up my overall self-ness. I'm outgoing and I tend to have some pretty strong opinions. I hate backing down from anything, but don't get me wrong, in this line of work you have to know how to choose your battles and I certainly choose mine well. I may look a little up in the clouds sometimes, but I'm always a hundred and fifty percent on Earth and paying attention. I'm observant and organized, even if you would never guess it. My friends are the world to me and I consider myself pretty damn loyal to them. The people who aren't my friends are just 'whatever' to me, you know? I'm not going to go out of my way to make someone's life miserable. I'm not bitchy like that. If I don't like someone I'll write them off cause they're definitely not worth my time. I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humour and I can be loads immature, but you only get to see that side if you know me really well. I think my one downfall is the fact that I am apparently really bossy. And I never lie, so I can't argue with that statement. I like being in charge and it bugs me when people don't listen to me. I get frustrated pretty easily when it comes to business, which is why I try to seperate that from my personal life as when I'm with my family or friends who aren't in the business I am laid back and not as manic as I usually am.
mhmm. well you sound like a fun young woman. now, is there anything about your past?I guess I'm pretty fun. I was born in England, you know? Pretty awesome. Kevin and Lara - that's my dad and mum - are the world's coolest parents. I have a little brother - Tommy. He's two years younger than me and as we grew up, we were super close. We moved to America when I was fifteen, so my accent has pretty much faded, though you can still hear it when I get mad. Nothing major really happened in my life until I moved across the ocean. Starting a new school wasn't fun for me or for Tommy and we had a pretty hard time. I could cope and I thought Tommy could as well, but he started slacking in school and by the time I had graduated high school, he had dropped out and dug himself a deep debt with drug money and shit like that. I don't talk to him anymore, even though mum and dad do. They taught me to always give second chances, but I saw how much they suffered with Tommy's bullshit and I promised myself to never put them through that. So I went to university, like a good girl. UCLA was awesome. I loved being there and a part of me wishes I could go back. I excelled in a lot of what I tried, other than that stupid biology elective I took...worst mistake ever. Like I said before, after uni, I was hired by BNI and my life was pretty smooth sailing from there. So, I'm a pretty average girl from a pretty average background. No real scandal or sexy mystery. Sorry.
ahh.. all right, so. tell me some of the things you like.Okay, things I like...let's see. I like tattoos, but that's probably obvious when you look at me. I think they're pretty awesome, on guys and on girls. I have a total of six, but I'm nowhere near being done. I think I already mentioned my debilitating love of comic books. I swear, I could sit at home and waste an entire day reading old issues of X-Men; there's just something so great about comics. They're like, accessible art, kinda like music. Which is another thing I like...but you already knew that right? Haha, uhm. I love dogs, I think they're the cutest animals ever besides panda bears. Owls are pretty rad, cause they're all smart and creepy at the same time. Uh...I like books and I like being in charge. I'm not sure what else. I mean, I like a lot of things. Polka dots are cool, so are pirates. And Booster Juice! I could love off of those things, especially the Funky Monkey...mostly cause I love chocolate and bananas far too much for my own good.
and what about dislikes?Hmm, well there are very few things that I loathe entirely, but a lot of shit does get on my nerves. Annoying people being the first. Sometimes I just want to punch certain people, not that my fists would do much damage. Uh...I don't like being disobeyed, but that comes with the territory of my job. On a more personal level, I don't like Harry Potter. He's one of those annoying people I want to punch. So is Disney. Let's see...even though I really like chocolate, hot cocoa makes me sick, so I guess I dislike that. The heat? Even though travelling is fun, hot places aren't really my thing. Neither are cold places. I want a nice, normal climate. And cats. But I like, hate cats. Hate. I know it's a strong word, but it's quite true. They scare me a little bit.
do you have any dirty little secrets you wanna share?Well, if I told you it wouldn't be a secret anymore...yeah, you've probably heard that one before. I'm not all that interesting and don't have a secret life like Clark Kent, but as far as secrets go I have a few I'm willing to share. I started smoking for a little while and never told my parents, but I was going through a pack a day. I quit though, cold turkey cause I was afraid of getting lung cancer. I also want to secretly be a writer. No one knows that, but it goes on the back burner to my job at the moment.
ooh, that is deeeeeep. well this interview is almost done, do you have anything else you want to say?It was totally awesome talking to you and everyone should come out and support this tour because it's gonna rock!
so heyy, my name is viv and i'm twenty-five years old. i've been roleplaying for less than a year roleplaying, so i think i am pretty damn good. so, my character stole the face of valerie poxleitner, just thought you should know. oh, and also: admin edit bby thanks for reading! oh, and below is my roleplay sample. :]
“Sorry, Luke. Alex is a bit busy at the moment.”
Jamie Lewis was lying through her teeth as she spoke politely into the telephone that was nestled between her ear and shoulder. Her hands were otherwise occupied, hastily sketching away on a napkin she had picked up from Starbucks on her coffee run earlier that morning. She listened absently as the Cajun man on the other side of the phone call muttered something about important business and needed to speak to the ‘big man’. Glancing down at her drawing, Jamie pursed her lips, nodding at the man’s comments, though she knew full well he couldn’t see her. Normally, a phone call like this would annoy her, but she rather liked Luke. He had been there since the beginning; one of their first associates and still faithful. “Of course,” Jamie sighed, “I’ll have him call you the moment he’s free.” Too bad that only God knew when that would be. Alex had yet to make an appearance in the office, though Jamie wasn’t all that worried. He was always late on Friday mornings. She wasn’t even sure why she bothered arriving on time or bringing him his favourite drink from Starbucks. It always got cold before he arrived and she ended up dumping it down the sink. A bored expression had fallen over the petite girl’s face as Luke continued muttering about how Alex was a good man with a bright future and real potential, not afraid to take chances and all that other jazz; things that Jamie had heard a hundred times before, things that she had witnessed first hand and had no need to be reminded of. “I hate to interrupt,” Jamie smiled into the receiver, her voice layered with feigned interest, “But I’ve got another call coming in. You have a nice day, okay Luke?”
She hung up just as Luke returned her well-wishes, tossing the sleek black cordless phone aside, her lips stuck somewhere between a grimace and her usual bright smile. Obviously, there was no other call. She was just not in the mood for small talk. Shaking her head, Jamie glanced down at her doodled napkin, random flowers situated over the rough surface. None were very well done and so she crumpled up her makeshift canvas and tossed it into the nearby waste bin. Her eyes wandered to the large glass windows that made up the furthest wall of her office, watching the clouds as they passed slowly. Jamie was actually quite bored. Again, a rather familiar Friday morning feeling. She had finished up everything imperative, taken nine phone messages for Alex to return – Luke’s being the tenth. And now, she was simply waiting for her wayward boss to wander into work so she could shove shipment papers in his face and get his signature. Tearing her eyes away from spectacular view she had from her spot behind the rich cherry wood desk, Jamie quickly jotted down Luke’s name on the sticky note containing all of that morning’s messages. She had no sooner dropped her ballpoint pen then a shrill ‘ping’ echoed throughout the large, spacious room. Jamie’s eyes shot to the elevator. Security had not buzzed her to confirm a visitor which could only mean one thing. Alex had finally arrived. She pushed back her comfy black chair and fixed a narrowed gaze at the elevator doors. Opening her mouth to greet him with a scathing remark, Jamie glanced up just in time to see Alex trip and fall to the floor. She was unable to stop the laughter that fell from her lips. The clumsiness certainly answered a lot of questions. She got to her feet quickly and smoothed the wrinkles out of her black pencil skirt.
“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Jamie grinned, though it was evident that Alex had got little to no sleep at all. She walked over to the small kitchen area at the far end of the room, flicking on the coffee pot. She figured that the poor guy would be needing one and since her Starbucks was a lost cause... As the coffee began to instantly brew, Jamie crossed the room once more, her black heels tapping against the hardwood floor. Reaching Alex, she dropped down beside him, her knees resting on the ground as she softly patted his shoulder, noting the strong smell of bourbon and tobacco that lingered on his clothing – which was definitely from the previous night.
“You need some help?” she smirked, pushing up the sleeves on her grey cardigan as her hands came back to rest on her hips.
