IS IT TRUE THAT YOU'RE ALWAYS THIS BREATHTAKING?
you're smart and you're willing ,

This wasn’t Connor’s fault. It wasn’t Khris’ fault. It was entirely Braelyn’s.
Earlier that day, she had been in an absolutely stellar mood. She had gotten all of her paper work done early and had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with Connor. Round midday, she was all but certain that nothing could ruin the natural high she was running on. She should’ve known better, whenever you think you’re on the right track of things something throws you off. In all honesty, this wouldn’t have been a big deal to any of the other assistants at BNI Records; actually it probably would’ve been something to look forward to. If it were any other band Braelyn would have enjoyed it herself. She knew she could’ve turned it down, maybe explain to Connor a bit of her history with Khris, he’d understand. He always understood. But no, she had to stand there and nod like a total idiot as he went on about how all she had to do was go While You Were Out’s concert at the Ford later that day and bring him back some sort of report on their performance in the morning. It wasn’t a big deal. Just something he was doing on all the bands in the label over the next couple weeks. Why had she suddenly gone mute when he brought up her assignment? Around Connor, speaking her mind always came easily but this time it failed her. Course, her mind always seemed to fail her when it came to talking about anything that was truly personal.
Throwing her head back, she glared at the contents of her closet. She usually didn’t spend too much time on things like fashion, but she couldn’t exactly run into Khris looking like a scum. Well, not that she currently resembled one, she simply had to torture him somehow, right? Sex appeal always worked. Sure, Khris had never been known to be a particularly sexual individual but he was a guy so it really didn’t matter…usually. Ugh. What did it matter? He’d never fight back. Generally, he was the more passive of the two though that definitely changed the night before he broke everything off with her. She couldn’t even remember what she had said that had set him off it was something so simple. All she knew was that she didn’t mean anything by it and didn’t expect much of any reaction out of it aside from maybe a playful retaliation. She had been taken completely off guard when he took it personally and started yelling, saying things she’d never have expected to hear out of her Khristopher’s mouth. Shaking her head, hoping that would somehow get her back on track, she just started grabbing things out of her closet. As long as it all matched in the end, she’d be satisfied. She didn’t bother taking a shower as she had just done so that morning and hadn’t done anything strenuous since. She did change obviously and redo her hair and makeup.
Braelyn sighed as she looked up at the clock and realized it was time for her to go. She was supposed to be there around an hour before the show started and stay until the crowd cleaned out. All in all, it was an agonizing amount of time. Screwing her lips to the side of her mouth and wrinkling her nose in disappointment, she threw some sunglasses over her eyes and her favorite fedora on top her head, grabbed her keys and purse, and headed for the car. It wasn’t a long drive to Ford Amphitheater but she tried her best to make it longer. She took the longest way possible and was quite content with driving behind the car with a sign that read “student driver” on the top. Maybe she would get into a small accident on the way there. She knew she was being over dramatic but she couldn’t help it. She did not want to deal with the consequences of seeing Kristopher again. It was likely to only bring up all the lingering feelings that were already all to present. At least they would be outside, she had a better chance at avoiding him that way, not that he’d try and stop her anyway. He didn’t need her. Sighing, she managed to find a spot in the quickly filling up parking spaces and made her way towards one of the benches that were open.
Wonderful! Somehow the bench right up and center was completely free. What were those cars in the parking lot there for? Surely they all couldn’t have missed the bench with the flawless view. Were they all moshers or something? Rolling her chocolate brown eyes, she sat on top of the picnic table rather than the bench itself. She always deemed it more comfortable. Mind you, she definitely wouldn’t have chosen this spot if it didn’t benefit her job. She would much rather be someplace where she could hide until after the show at the very least. Glancing up at the stage, she saw the guitar techs and sound checks and whoever else making sure everything was going to run smoothly. At least the band probably wouldn’t be around for awhile, they’d surely be off preparing themselves or signing autographs or whatever. She felt a smile of relieve grace her features as she dug through her purse for the notebook and pen she’d been provided to work with. Rather than take notes, she found herself doodling on the pages. She figured she’d just jot down ideas as the show was going on and write the entire thing out when she got home afterwards. She wasn’t sure what exactly the label wanted out of this anyway, she hadn’t taken the time to ask Connor any questions. She’d been too horrified. Honestly, what were the chances?
After finding numerous things to amuse her for an hour, Kylie was up on stage introducing everyone in the band. Braelyn’s eyes shot forward as she heard Khris’ name, only to look right back down at her paper. Damn. Every little encounter they had was another shot to her ego. Whenever she looked at him all she could hear were the words: I don’t need you. It took everything in her not to lose her composure. He probably hadn’t even seen her yet. There were loads of people in the crowd, the chance of him spotting her were luckily slim to none. The last thing she wanted was for him to see her there before she had a chance to explain that it was entirely work related and she wasn’t some sap who came to all of his concerts or something. She’d definitely leave out the fact that she had stalked him on Google for around a year. That was totally unnecessary information. As they started in with their first song, she tried her hardest to keep her eyes on anyone in the band that wasn’t Khris himself. It didn’t last long though, it would be impossible to explain just how mesmerizing the boy was when he was doing what he loved most. It radiated through him, and honestly it stole Brae all over again.
The rest of the show continued much the same, Braelyn made sure to take notes every now and again. She noted the way they reacted to the fans and the way the fans reacted to them. They were all but flawless really, she was impressed. Sure, she’d listen to their CD a thousand times and seen them play live on television, but nothing compared to what she had seen just now. They truly were amazing. The first thing she had done when the show was over, was get over to Kylie and Jackson when they were alone and away from Khris. She asked the questions she guessed the label would want to know, and felt her pulse speed when the last thing she needed to do was talk to her ex boyfriend. Kylie had told her that he was over signing whatever the fans handed to him; she walked over there and made sure that she was last in line. She nervously toyed with the mustache ring that still resided on her ring finger. Quite a few years ago, before she had even dated Khris, he had pretended to purpose to her with it on her fifteenth birthday. She had told him that she’d never take it off and she kept to her promise. She somehow managed to forget all about it by the time she was alone with him and at the front of the line. Shoving the notebook with the notes on the band inside in front of his face, she simply said: ”Sign it for me?"
