----------------------- i'd rather lead than followi'd rather stay in the coldi must have got so old ---------------------------
"it's too.... small." sighing, jayden threw her last pair of jeans that she found onto her bed as she collapsed right on top of it onto her bed. she hated clothes. not really, but at this moment she really did. jayden went shopping almost every two weeks because the size of her clothes were always changing. their they were too big, or they were too small. lately they had been too small, and the thought was making her want to cry. well, almost, but not really. her solution was simple; buy more clothes. along with the typical "lose weight to fit your current clothes", which she also did. but, jayden didn't feel like waiting. and she did need some new clothes... sighing, she brushed her hair out of her face as she forced herself to change. stripping out of her tank top into a metro station shirt and black skinny jeans, she pulled on a pair of socks as she glanced at herself in the mirror. making a face, she grabbed her hair brush and brushed through her hair, catching at the knots and snarls in it before she grabbed her converse high tops and shoved her small feet through them. there. she was pretty much ready. throwing on a small black hoodie and grabbing her bag, she walked out the door, locking it behind her.
oh, just a few more months and she would have her own car. she would have had the perfect amount of money today if she didn't have to worry about taking her college courses online. that was the only downer about this whole situation; a lot of the money she made, she didn't get to keep. so often she had to get money off her brothers to pay for whatever she needed. which is clothes, she considered. car wcould wait. yes, she wasn't that much of a normal teenager, she realized this. as she walked down the street, past the studio even, she rarely glanced up, her eyes on her iPod as she walked through the crowds, avoiding to bump into most of the people that were around,s ave for a few old women that seemed to want to whack her with their canes. apologizing profusely, she walked past them, this time looking up the whole time. she didn't need anymore threats from old ladies.
the plaza was a bit of a walk, but jayden didn't mind. it was actually kind of relaxing to just walk down the streets towards the plaza. there were shops that she never even knew existed on the way towards the plaza. she found herself stopping in front of a pawn shop that she never noticed before. she wanted to walk in and look around, but she wanted to get to the plaza first before too many people came. so, waving a goodbye to the pawn shop owner, a woman who was smiling at her as she waited to see if jayden would walk in, she walked on, sad. she'd have to stop by back there as she walked back towards her house. she realized then she might have wanted to leave a message for her parents. sure, they usually came home later than any of their kids, but there were those rare times when they did come home early. so, pulling her phone out, she texted both her mom and dad, saying that she was going to the mall, and she just wanted to let the know in case they came home early.
looking up, she was surprised to find herself in the parking lot of the plaza. hm.. apparently walking and texting helped speed up time? who knew. she walked up towards one of the bigger entrances into the mall. sighing, she stopped just inside the door for a second before continuing on. people were already there. jayden hated shopping when there were a lot of people... but she needed to do this. besides, she only had a few pairs of jeans that fit now, and she didn't want to have to rewear them that often or anything. so, she pushed herself to walk through the wall towards her favorite department store on the second level. they had a whole rack of jeans that were really low priced, and were also cute, so it was perfect. for her, and her brothers' money. as she rode up the escalator, she tapped her fingers against the bar. how was it that it was only near noon and there were already four thousand something people in the plaza? jayden already felt out of place with how many people were in there.
ten minutes later, she found herself in the store, staring at the rack of jeans that was in front of her. most of the jeans were the same size, which made her mad, because the size was too small for her. giving up for the time being, she decided to move on and come back in a bit. she instead decided to go find some other stuff. as she walked around, her hand brushing up against random hangers that were on the racks, she stopped as she saw a particular shirt. a fitted, light blue shirt with short sleeves and a slight frill on the front. sure, jayden was sure she probably would not wear that one too often, but it caught her eye right away. grabbing it off the rack, she was about to go try it on when she caught site of a mirror just a bit away. hm... that was easier. lifting the shirt up, she stood in front of the mirror, trying to decide from what she was seeing now if the shirt was really worth it.

EVERYONE'S A LETDOWN it just depends on how far down they can go. Cash had failed to fit the idealistic male image, that included muscles and being extraordinarily tall and athletic. He hated sports, especially football and anything else that involved excessive physical contact and lots of running. He also wore tight clothing, had toyed around with eyeliner (NEVER AGAIN.), and straightened his hair. Among those things, he would rather be on stage playing the drums with his bandmates than watching porn or 'getting some'. In fact, he was practically a virgin. But there was one hobby of his that made every ignorant heterosexual male cringe more than the others.
It was girly. It was slightly embarrassing. There was a small chance that he would have to murder you if you happened to catch him in the act of it.
Shopping.
Shopping wasn't something that boys like him were supposed to do. Boys like him, meaning tough guy, manly, feelingless – and of course, just downright cool. But he loved it either way. Whenever he went on vacation, he made sure to pack as lightly as possible so that he could fit all the things he didn't need, but bought anyway, into his suitcase on the way back. From clothes to the stupid trinkets that no one needed, but businesses thrived off of, Cash was a total shopping softy. Many a time he would end up going to the mall with no intention of buying anything, but purchasing quite a few things nonetheless. Some days he actually left his money at home so that he couldn't be tempted. But today was not one of those days. He had in fact brought all his money with him, and despite not having totally burnt a hole in his pocket yet, he had found the need to buy one of those fancy little ice coffees with the complicated names. Other than that, though, he was doing well and he was almost proud of himself. Ironically enough, the opportunity to buy something he actually needed came not when he wanted it to, but when he really didn't need that certain something, or wasn't looking for it. However, such a thing wouldn't happen in the women's section of a store, so he was safe. For now. It dawned on him that it was kind of weird to be chilling out around girls' clothes, but he had nowhere else to be and the chances were small that he would actually bump into anyone that he knew.
But of course, the unexpected always happened to Cash. There, standing in front of a mirror with some bluish article of clothing was Jayden. He stood for a moment, hesitating some feet away and probably out of her sight, deciding whether he was going to actually approach her or not. It would be a little weird to run into her in the mall, in some girly department store, of all places. Maybe she would think he was stalking her or something. Excellent. He always made sure to be extra kind to her in hopes that she'd open up and stop being so quiet all the time. It was almost unbearable for him. Everyone else got glares and snaps, while Jayden got him to grin and bear it just because she had some mystery to her. Curiosity killed the cat. Cash was a very, very dead cat. Or, maybe he just liked her. But that was obviously impossible and wrong on many levels in the world and logic of Cash – even dead cats are better than feelings.
Finally he sighed and gritted his teeth, frustrated with himself for having come out in the first place, but it would be wrong to walk away without so much as a greeting, so he stepped forward and towards her, careful not to walk in front of the mirror. He was aiming for one of the movie entrances, where the dreamy boy steps out of the background and drops some smooth line that makes the girl giggle. Well, not quite. He didn't have anything cool to say that would make her blush or get butterflies, and there was no way he would manage that element of surprise. Instead, he walked quietly towards her, approaching from her left and hardly acknowledging her at all until he was standing about a foot and a half away."It fits you." was his greeting, one hand holding the half empty ice coffee in front of him and the other tucked in his back pocket. "Blue's a good color, if you can pull it off." He sounded kind of stupid at that point, and he realized he might also be coming off as slightly gay. Not to mention that his last comment could be seen as implying that blue wasn't a good color for her. "Which you can, I mean." Awkward wasn't one of the things he would have thought to describe himself as, but then again, neither were juvenile and insecure.

----------------------- i'd rather lead than followi'd rather stay in the coldi must have got so old ---------------------------
was it bad that she was mad at lyric? sure, it wasn't really her fault that she wasn't there shopping with her. lyric herself was mad that she got called into the shoot at the last minute. apparently one of the other models had called out sick with a stomach flu so lyric had to be called in to make up for it. but, jayden could still be slightly mad, right? maybe not at lyric, and surely not at the other girl who was sick with a stomach flu. but, here jayden was looking like a little twelve year old shopping on her own for the first time. already four women that worked in the stoer had asked her if she needed any help, and when jayden shook her head slowly and replied with "no, i'm fine, thank you", they walked away in what jayden knew was a walk that meant "thank god kid. just get out of here and go back to your mommy." shaking her head at the thought of the snobbish saleswomen, she turned her attention back to the mirror.
hm... maybe. she wasn't sure. she liked it, but just because she thought it looked good on her doesn't mean it would look good to anyone else... she sighed, about to turn around and put it back when she heard a voice off to the side saying it fitted her. turning her head, she let a small smile show up on her face as she saw cash farley standing there. looking down, she held the shirt in her hands before looking up at him. she was about to talk when she heard him correct herself, and she couldn't help but laugh softly as she grasped the shirt a bit tighter in her hands. "i like it." she said simply. she never really wasted words. but she did have to say this, she was slightly glad cash was here. sure, not many people were his biggest fan on tour, but she rather liked cash.
"what are you doing here so early?" well, it might not have been early for him, but she considered it very early indeed. she never really came shopping until the afternoon time. the only reason she'd even come this early was because she didn't have lyric, and she had assumed less people would be here for her to run into. well that kind of blew up in her face. though she could not complain cash was here. she liked cash. a lot of people thought that weird, or at least the people that knew jayden, because they weren't really similar, by any means. but somehow, she found herself talking to him sometimes. it was just interesting.
grabbing her bag, she turned around, looking at the rack of shirts, but still talking to cash. "i came trying to find some new jeans. all mine are too small.." her voice got quiet at the thought of her jeans being too small for her, but she cleared it up and spoke in what was to be considered her normal volume. "but i found this shirt. i don't know. i don't have much money. so should i buy this shirt, or use what i have to buy two jeans?" she turned around, watching him for help. sure, it was weird to ask a guy for help with these kinds of things but it was better than assuming. besides, she trusted cash's words. most of the time. it was... odd. many people considered it odd that her and cash were even friends. and in all honestly, jayden wasn't sure how that happened.
course, she wasn'te ven sure if they were friends. sure, they talked, sometimes they met up randomly at places, but... she really didn't know what they were. she thought they were... acquantances. or at least something more than average friends. she wasn't sure. she didn't want to come right out and ask him if that's what they were. that was the worst thing she could do. see, this was why jayden failed at social interaction. she felt as though if they had taught a class in high school about that, she would have liked it. that would have helped her a lot more than just "going through life and learning social skills". it wasn't as easy as people made it out to be. "so... " she really couldn't think of anyone to say. god, she was pathetic. not even knowing what to say to a friend that walked up to her? well.... she assumed that's what cash was. she like cash, she did. she just didn't really know where they stood. she liked him as a friend, she did. he was fun to talk to, and he actually seemed to like, which she knew was rare because she heard people talking about how mean he was and whatnot.
glancing back at cash, she shrugged before asking in a soft voice. "do you... i mean, you don't have to, but do you want to... i don't maybe, hang out?" she stared at her shoes; it was just easier. "i mean, i didn't have anyone to come with, i mean, usually i have lyric with me, but she was busy, so... uuhm... i mean, you don't have to, no!" she said, making sure to put emphasis on that she wasn't going to force him to come with her. "it'd be nice though..." she mumbled the last bit, shrugging. she really did fail. now, not only did she sound like a loser who had no one to go to the mall with, she looked like a loser who just barely knew how to talk. why wasn't luck on her side, ever? it just seemed like life was out to get her. she hated it.

EVERYONE'S A LETDOWN it just depends on how far down they can go. Being on tour was great. Being in a band in general was great. But there was really not a lot to do when he didn't have practice or a show to be at. He didn't have tons of friends to hang out with in his spare time, nor did he particularly like staying inside all day playing video games. Being indoor too long made him feel like he was rotting. On the other hand, he hated getting outside and doing something, which required the effort needed to get him looking presentable in case he did in fact see someone he knew (like today) and the actual incentive to even get out. He was a lazy guy, that was for sure. For the most part, though, he couldn't complain about his lifestyle. Hell, most of the people he knew were probably starting their first year in college. Which was great in theory, but he always hated the idea of having to do more work even AFTER you graduated. Partying sounded great, but he got a fair amount from being in a band. And then, what after they all finished? Desk work. They'd be sitting behind a desk all day, slaving from nine to five and then going back to their families and children (already, ew.) and once they went to bed, it would all begin again. So at least he had the benefit of an exciting, unpredictable life.
Unfortunately today was one of those days that didn't have a set activity, so he was on his own. And doubly unfortunately, Cashall was not one of the more creative people that he knew of. He had nothing productive to do whatsoever. Besides possibly working out, but he hated that to bits. The only real reasoning behind slaving for a few hours a week was to look good. Morbidly obese people freaked him out – no, he was not in fact ashamed of how shallow he was – and he had to look good for the fans. Of course, it wasn't completely necessary, since their music kicked ass, but when it came to bands like Winter Pursuit, their appearance could be their only saving grace.
So there he was, avoiding anything that could be helpful to him later on, out at the mall pretending he wouldn't buy anything. Despite his mostly hidden enjoyment for shopping, he didn't tend to take ten thousand years to pick out clothes like some girls did. If he found something he liked and it seemed fitting, he got it. That was that. None of that indecisive crap people went through. He shrugged. It was hard to balance being nice, but not too many compliments, because that could give certain messages he wasn't intending to send. But at the same time, he didn't want to just be quiet. Then she might think he didn't like it. Christ. "If you like it, you should get it." Was she waiting for him to say? He really hoped not. His own answer was yes, but ugh.. with women, you never know what they want you to say. By the time she had asked him what he was doing at the mall, he was standing near her by the sales rack that she had most likely picked the shirt from. It was, after all, very close to the mirror she was looking in. "Buying sh .. stuff." There, that was a much more manly alternative for saying that he came out to buy clothes and all those other girly activities the mall offered. Maybe they would get manicures later while they discusses their little white teacup poodles that were living in their purses. Yeah.
He sipped through the green straw slowly, trying to avoid the inevitable, obnoxious slurping noise, as she explained her dilemma. He didn't bother answering her question, or really responding to her previous statements at all. Without pausing from his drinking, he pulled his hand out of his one pocket and slid it into the other, pulling out his wallet and holding it out to her. "Get whatever you want." But then again, it was Jayden, whose manners were somehow unfailing no matter what the situation was. He figured she would undoubtedly protest to taking his money. "Don't argue with me either. Just take it." He wasn't going to let her leave the store without getting all the pairs of jeans and shirts her heart desired.
In all honesty, Cash wasn't much better at conversation than Jayden was. He was fingering the racks of clothing she had been picking through, definitely without a purpose, as he had no idea what Jayden liked and he'd probably end up picking out the wrong size and somehow insulting her anyhow. They weren't talking, but the silent wasn't terribly awkward, and he was fine with it. As long as he didn't have to come up with something civil to say, everything was fine with him. Most of his conversations, whether it be with a best friend or a worst enemy, involved lots of swearing and rude humor, but he doubted Jayden would appreciate either of those things very much. His eyes raised from the thick barrier of clothing between them to her face as she spoke, but he wasn't really sure how to respond, so he continued chewing on his straw and examining clothes with her. And then she asked him to hang out. That was.. a start. "Aren't we sort of doing that already?" He asked, smirking slightly and tilting his head. The same coy smile remained as he laughed lightly, hopefully making it obvious that he wasn't being too serious. "Sure. I'd like that. I'll do my best, but I can't promise anything. I doubt I'm anywhere near as good at shopping as Lyric." Lyric seemed like the kind of girl that had a huge wardrobe, but still went shopping every chance she got. Jayden, really, did not, but then again. He didn't know as much about everything as he liked to believe he did.

----------------------- i'd rather lead than followi'd rather stay in the coldi must have got so old --------------------------- jayden was a complex individual. she would not deny that about herself. she had so much to be proud about, but she never really saw the positive aspects about herself like other people saw them. jayden was a pro at picking out the horrible aspects of herself. whether it was how she looked, flaws in her personality, whatever it was that she could pick at. she knew that she shouldn't have done that. she should have tried to atletast pick out the door aspects of herself. but in all honesty, whenever she even was remotely close to speaking of her good aspects, negative ones came to her mind. it was quite easy for her to pick out the positive aspects of other people. very easily, in fact. but when it came to herself, she could not really ever think of one. it was honestly quite sad. she never dared mention that too. she hated the people who did the whole 'oh my gosh, you are so gorgeous' and all those other things. just hearing those made her feel, if possible, even worse. she had no idea why either. it had been this weird little thing with her ever since she had been a little girl. she had always been the opposite of her brother, so all those words always made her feel even more awkward, not better.
hearing cash say that she should get it if she liked it, she nodded absent mindedly. she was honestly such a pain when it came to clothes, mostly because of those self esteem issues she had. so she knew she was a pain to deal with when it came to shopping. she often felt bad for pierce, who she had often dragged around shopping with her whenever she hadn't felt like going alone. she was kind of needy like that. honestly, if cash hadn't showed up, she was pretty sure she would have called pierce and asked him to come down to the mall. she looked up as cash said he was buying stuff, and she smiled at him, nodding. "find anything yet?" she said as she looked back towards the rack, absent mindedly running her hand over the hangers, just staring at the multitude of colors that were in front of her.
at the words "get whatever you want", jayden snapped her head up, already shaking her head. but before she could open her mouth to tell him no he was telling her not to argue. she wasn't going to give in though. if there was one thing in the world she hated besides saying positive things about herself, it was borrowing anything from other people, money especially. she was honestly awful about it. every time she was low, she would constantly deny anyone's attempts to pay for something that she needed. she often felt bad whenever pierce offered to help her pay for something, and he was her gosh darn brother! it was just awful. so there was no way that she would let cash pay for anything for her. taking his hand with the wallet in both of her hands, she pushed it towards him. "no, i'm not using your money. i don't need it, okay? you keep it." she didn't say it firmly, but she had a look in her eye. "thank you though, for the offer." she was pretty sure she would hear of this again, no doubt in the next five minutes. she just wasn't willing to argue with it. it was either she had money, or she didn't. borrowing money didn't exist in her world. because then, she just felt too gosh darn bad about it.
as he ran his own hand over the rack, she turned back around to it, just glancing at random things. it was quiet between them, but it wasn't really awkward anything. jayden was used to silence. for the first few years of her life, or of when she was supposed to be this loud mouth little kid who loved talking ( like pierce had been ), jayden had been mute. not even joking. jayden had been a literal mute. half the time people had wondered how her and pierce were even related, let alone twins. they were so different. jayden had sort of clung onto him a lot when they were younger. she was a clingy person in those days. now, she hated the thought of being clingy. she had this fear, sort of. she didn't want to be annoying to people. so she tried not to cling to people at all. it was sort of hard, especially when it came to actual friends. see. this was the reason jayden really hated her thought patterns. she overthought everything. she shook her head of her current thoughts as she heard his question. looking up, she felt a littie burst of heat rising to her face. they were sort of han ging out, weren't they... nodding her head, she shrugged slightly. that was actually slightly awkward to do. "i guess we are..." she said thoughtfully, as he continued on. she laughed slightly as his words. "well it doesn't technically have to be shopping, so no worries." she said, laughing slightly. "or i could pick out clothes for you." she said teasingly. she loved shopping for people. her stylist skills actually came to use them. if there was anything that jayden was not afraid to show off, it was her skills at being able to mix and match clothes to actually look good together.
