caleb alexander sommers
so, let's start off with the basics. what's your name?Oh. -cough- Hi. I'm Caleb Alex Sommers. Spelt with an 'o', not a 'u'. That would be awesome if it was but sadly it's not. Uhm, Mason calls me Calex because of my middle name but somehow I don't think that is going to stick haha. Saying that, a few of the fans have called it me... I think he's mentioned it in an interview of something. It sounds more like the name of cling film or window cleaner but I don't mind. It's his choice, right?
oh, it's a nice name! now, would you mind telling us how old you are? Thanks, love. Yeah, sure! I turned nineteen on 21st December of last year. Mhmm, that was fun. I didn't expect so many people to turn up to the party that we had so I felt really special! I don't really remember too much of the night after 9pm but apparently that proves it was a good night haha.
really? you look much younger! well, let's get started. first off, what are you on this tour?Again, thanks love. I'll take that as a compliment haha. I play guitar for an acoustic band called Violet Sunday with my two best friends. It's great... I love it. The other two really made us do well by getting us signed! I'm so proud of them.
oh! so how did you first get involved with batteries not included records?Well, we managed to somehow get a gig at Spaceland and used pretty much all of my mom's ink in her printer to make the fliers and like spread them around all night and then then the scout saw us and decided that the band was good enough to get signed. We're really lucky.
oh gosh, really? all right, so, how are you enjoying it so far? It's great! I mean, sure, it can get awkward when Sav and Mason are all over each other and I'm just there but whatever, love and all that. I am happy for them seriously! They're dead sweet together haha and it means Mase is happy all the time!
that's great! so, what do you do in your free time when you are not working?Uhm, well my work kind of merges into my free time ahha. If i'm not spending my time with my band mates then I'll probably be tracking some kind of guitar on my computer. I, uh, was asked to do some backing guitar riffs for some of the chart singers... you know the people who don't play instruments? It's okay. I like doing it and I get to meet people so that's great. I like to cook as well and even if I hardly get to eat any of it myself, I love the process of making it from scratch so call me a girl, I don't care! I think that's my mom's inspiration, we always had home cooked meals. I'm normally found either on my phone or on email because I'm a busy little boy so I don't have a great deal of time to do much else. It's all good. Oh, I also go to peace marches and things... but that's because I do actually believe in the peace so...
oh, i love some of those too! looks like we have alot in common.Oh great. That's awesome. You should totally come to the apartment and we can cook!
so, how has your romantic past been?Right. Well, I suppose I should tell you. I had a girlfriend for two years when I was fourteen and I know you'll probably laugh at me but I loved her. Honest, I did. She told me she did as well. Anyway, like a week before our 'anniversary' I found out she'd been doing naughty things with one or two of the local jocks at my high school. Yeah, that was fun to hear... especially as we were only sixteen. Bit slaggish to be honest. So, i've not really interested myself in anything like that since.
and what about now? is that any better? any different?Nope. Like I said, not really interested myself in it. Just filled my time with more productive things.
oh, i see.. hmm... and, what would you say are your turn ons? do you have any turn offs?Well, it would be nice if people didn't cheat, you know? But then, you can never be sure that they're not so unless their the type of person that won't do thatagainthen I'm not too interested haha. It'd also help if they weren't a bigot... just saying. I like girls that are naturally looking, normally with dark hair but I'm not one to exactly discriminate. If they're pretty relaxed too because they have to be able to have a laugh.
ooh, that's understandable, mhm. so, give us a bit of detail about yourself.Well, I guess I'm really not a very good judge of character. There's something to start with, hey! No seriously, I have a tendency to let the person do something bad before I notice that they might not be the best influence. Still, that means I give everyone a chance, right? It's better then just rejecting everyone straight away. So, at least compared to other people, I'm pretty quiet especially in big groups. Don't get me wrong, I'm sociable I just don't butt in on other peoples conversations and I'm not the person you want to go to if you want someone to start the talk. By all means, I'll continue it even if it doesn't interest me, but unless I've had a drink or an excess amount of sugar then... well, you understand. I suppose I can be a bit of a pushover as well since I don't want the other person to get upset with me, and I'd do anything for my best friends. I'd give it up everything if they needed me too. Ugh, I don't like speaking about myself too much haha. Yeah, I guess that does mean that I am modest. I've been told I'm pretty good at guitar because I can focus in on one thing without getting too distracted but that's for you to decide.
mhmm. well you sound like a fun young man. now, is there anything about your past?I've always lived in L.A my whole life. My mom has a thing for the sun really which is pretty awesome I suppose. Vitamin D and all that. Anyway, my dad left when my mom had me which maybe isn't so awesome but it's okay, it was his choice and everything. It wasn't like he was leaving my mom in a bad situation. She was the main earner after all. She works as an event manager so it means she gets to help with all those big celebrity parties and big concert events and everything. Anyway, since she was involved somewhat in the music scene she always encouraged me to learn to play something and that happened to be the guitar. I had lessons from before I even knew what my hands were for but it was worth it. Anyway, I met Mason at school sometime and he hit it off pretty much straight away. I was fourteen when I first fell in love with this girl called Hannah and we dated for almost two years. That was great, until I found out she'd been cheating on me for about half of that time. Not so great. Anyway, it pretty much started when Mason and I were talking and we decided we should make a band. Anyway, I met Sav in a cafe in the middle of L.A one day and she told me how she really wanted to be successful as a music artist so I think it was fate really. Anyway, I told her that we wanted to start a band and I took her to Mason and it was just a big reunion. Quite sweet actually haha. So, yeah. That's what happened. A few months ago I was approached by another label and although I'm contracted to BNI label, I sometimes help record some riffs for some of the less able musicians... you know, like the pop singers and boybands and things. Obviously my life is always going to be with my band first off though.
ahh.. all right, so. tell me some of the things you like.Well, like I said, I enjoy cooking from scratch. I've become quite a pro at it now... or well, not a pro but much better anyway. It's fun seeing the end product, you know? I like generally just strumming on my guitar... I have a collection at my mom's place. I've only got like five so far, a mixture of both acoustic and electric but I care for them for my life... which is why they're at my old house. No way am I bringing my treasures near this rabble haha. No, I'm just kidding. I love being a musician and we're such a close knit family, you know? Most people are friends... at least I am. I like talking to everyone because like I said, I don't see their true character haha. Some of the guys sometimes take me out to parties and stuff although it's not necessarily my scene, but they've kind of realised what I'm like after a few drinks. Don't drink kids... stay in uhm, school.
and what about dislikes?Well, my pet peeve is people who eat loudly. The noise of crunching or teeth smacking together goes through me and I will happily stare at that person until they eat like a normal human being should. Erm, it sounds stupid out of context but I hate war. You know, I go to the peace rallies when they happen in L.A and give my support. You don't have to use violence to get something out of something else.
do you have any dirty little secrets you wanna share?Everyone does. I don't wanna share them but I don't really have a choice, do I? Perhaps I've always looked at guys in a different light to what I should do? I don't know... all I'm saying is that perhaps I'm not as 100% straight as I always claim to be. My other deepest secret is that I'm normally pretty quiet because I have low self esteem? Not really a secret to anyone that knows me inside and out but I hate talking about myself because perhaps, I hate what I would have to say?
ooh, that is deeeeeep. well this interview is almost done, do you have anything else you want to say?Check out the band. The others are really worth your time!
